Element Materials Technology Failure Analyst and Metallurgical Engineer in Wixom, Michigan
Element has an opportunity for a Failure Analyst and Metallurigical Engineer. This position will be primarily responsible for the failure analysis inspections, operations, reporting and consultation services. This position reports to the Engineering Department Manager.
Responsible for developing and maintaining business and sales in metallurgical failure analysis.
Conduct discussion with clients, both existing as well as new, for the purpose of evaluating their current and future needs. Develop and recommend test plans and make preliminary determination of scope of work
Prepare written quotations, proposals, schedule tests, analyze test results, prepare reports and submit invoices
Responsible for project management including schedules and costs, and providing technical work directions and instructions to technicians, interns, and collaborating engineers, etc., assigned to the project
Develop and maintain a client and project portfolio through which he/she is able to achieve billing and invoicing targets and goals of an engineer. Targets are set by the Engineering Department Manager
Be a technical resource for the Engineering Manager and the entire company staff with respect to project review, quote review, capital expenditures, interviewing and selecting new engineering staff members
Be a technical resource to the Engineering Staff with respect to providing technical expertise and support to the organization.
Be a Technical Expert to the Market and help promote the company by assisting with the marketing, promoting, developing and growing of engineering business including giving seminars to customers, technical presentations, technical articles, serve on committees, for example, ASM
Work with Sales Staff to identify and develop new sales opportunities. Accompany Sales Staff on client visits if required.
Work with financial staff to help collect outstanding invoices
Through his/her status as an Engineer, he/she is to generate sales through relationship building as well as supporting sales and marketing and growth of Element’s failure analysis and consulting business
Furthermore, he/she is to lend technical support to the Company technician and sales staff, and the Engineering Department Manager with respect to test and project planning, employee development, business development, project review, and capital investments.
Ensure work is performed in accordance with company procedures and regulatory agencies’ regulations
Responsible for adhering to safety procedures and appropriate regulatory and company standards
Help resolve customer complaints, which may be quality, pricing, or delivery related, while balancing the interests of both the customer and Element
Skills / Qualifications
Although a BS degree is the minimum requirement, an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering is preferred
Background in metallurgy, SEM/EDS and failure analysis experience and/or coursework are required. Selected applicants will be required to submit a writing sample and college transcripts after the beginning of the application process.
Well developed oral and written communication skills to meet a variety of communication needs (presentations, training and development, leadership)
Experience in conducting and reporting of root cause failure analysis
Experience in working with SEM / EDS (Scanning Electron Microscopy / Energy Dispersive analysis)
Strong interpersonal skills that foster open upward and downward communication built on mutual respect
The ability to assess and respond to client requirements in an appropriate manner
Ability to operate and function within a team, drawing on other expertise where required
Flexibility and adaptability to different workloads and roles within the company
The candidate should have motivation and experience in convincing customer to purchase quoted work.
Experience working in an ISO 17025 laboratory environment
