Aerotek Software Validation Engineer in Warren, Michigan

Role Summary

Over The Air (OTA) validation engineer.

Work with Calibration Engineers and DREs to obtain appropriate software archive(s) for OTA validation activities.

Engage VVEs, System Bench Leads to reserve/schedule appropriate vehicle or bench test properties, respectively

Develop & Execute test procedures that comprehend OTA requirements and functionalities. Execute validation plans for the subsystem at bench and vehicle level.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze the vehicle portfolio and associated interfacing subsystem rollout (clusters, BCM, Radio, ECC, ECM, VICM, etc.) to develop a high level test matrix that ensures that all vehicle/component combinations are tested.

Develop test methods based on functional telematics and interfacing subsystem requirements.

Track & Plan future OTA validation based on present and future ECU availability.

Execute testing to developed test methods that validate system requirements of OTA targeted ECUs.

Track hardware and Software changes to Telematics interfacing ECUs as they relate to OTA

Provide and report status of testing and validation activities.

Timely document all anomalies using existing documentation tools (ESIM/PRTS)

Follow issue resolution from issue origination thru verification, closure, and monitoring.

Root cause system level telematics nonconformities to the appropriate offending module.

Update component / subsystem scorecards to properly status OTA validation status.

Develop new test techniques to improve test quality/efficiency.

Work with engineering functions, suppliers and others to implement cost reduction items or product improvements

Attend PDT's when required and contribute validation status.

Anticipate and communicate validation roadblocks/challenges

Develop and implement new test methods to improve quality/efficiency (automation, etc)

OTA overview As electrical, and more specifically software content, in automobiles continues to rise, it is critical to have an efficient and effective process to ensure that the electronic modules have the latest software code. Historically, this has been performed by service professionals at the dealership. However, the electronic modules in vehicles also have the capability to receive software updates via over the air distribution; similar to the updates that you frequently receive on your phones or other devices. Whether a security update, bug fix, warranty reduction, or a new feature add, OTA is a critical tool for ensuring that our customers have the latest and greatest functionality in their vehicles. This feature is also critical to support our corporate electrification and autonomous strategies.The OTA validation engineer is responsible to ensure that the end to end OTA software delivery feature works flawlessly and that we can reliably download and update the software into hundreds of thousands (soon millions) of vehicles per year. In this role, the individual will develop strong technical capability, deep understanding of the validation process, solid program / time management skills, and will have many opportunities for cross functional interaction with design, systems, suppliers, and back office teams.
