McLaren Health Care Coder I- St. Luke's in Shelby Township, Michigan
Position Summary: Responsible for coding simple hospital inpatient stays (Inpatient Coder I) or simple outpatient records (Outpatient Coder I), reviews documentation and properly identifies and assigns codes for all reportable diagnoses and procedures. This includes determining the correct principal diagnosis, co-morbidities and complications, secondary conditions and surgical procedures.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
Outpatient Coder I will be responsible for coding and charge validation (charge entry):
Facility outpatient simple E/M visits, Laboratory, Radiology, or
ER visits, or
OBGYN/Women Health, Pain Management, Wound Care and/or Infusion Clinics or
Professional General Medicine, Internal Medicine, OBGYN/Women Health, Pain Management, Wound Care and/or Infusion Clinics or
Inpatient Coder I will be responsible for coding:
Simple inpatient visits (with < 30 days of LOS)
Properly identifies and assigns ICD-10-CM, CPTs and/or PCS codes.
Determines the correct principal diagnosis, co-morbidities and complications, secondary conditions and surgical procedures.
Associate degree in HIT or healthcare related field.
One year of facility outpatient, professional or inpatient coding experience.
RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) AHIMA certification.
