Nexteer Automotive Electrical Systems Design Engineer (Co-Op) 2021 in Saginaw, Michigan

The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. Job Requisition Introductory Paragraph:

This position supports electrical system design for embedded control systems using state of the art microcontrollers. This job involves support of product engineers, verification of electrical functions that are to be implemented into an embedded control module using electrical circuits, microcontroller peripherals and software algorithms.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in creating designs that meet feature requirements in both the hardware and software domains. This may include designing at an algorithm level and/or verification of algorithm performance at an electrical bench.

  • Assist in debugging failures in existing programs.

  • Assist in readying equipment for team use. This may include adding headers, soldering test points, etc.

  • Create new and/or enhance existing computer applications, programs, spreadsheets, databases, etc. to compile information and generate reports of department metrics

  • Support embedded software development activities

    Requirements:

  • Candidate must be attending a 4-year university local to Saginaw

  • Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelors in Engineering

  • Computer or Electrical preferred

  • Candidate must be able to work 20-32 hours during Fall and Winter semesters

  • Up to 40 in the summer

  • Must have cumulative 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale

  • Must be a full-time student (12 or more credits) during Fall and Winter semesters

  • Candidate must be proficient with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, Visio, etc)

  • Candidate must have the ability to use typical electrical bench equipment (oscilloscopes, function generators, etc)

  • Candidate must understand basic electrical circuit design and debug

  • Candidate must have right to work in the US and not require current or future sponsorship

    Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity of microcontroller peripherals, their use and configuration options.

  • Ability to read and understand embedded software (C and assembly language)

  • Ability to read and understand programs developed in LabVIEW.

  • Design experience using Matlab/Simulink

  • Ability to use in circuit emulators or debuggers
