Samaritas Director of Nursing in Saginaw, Michigan
Assumes leadership, responsibility and accountability for the delivery of nursing services to the assigned community. Allocates department resources in effective and economical manner to enable residents to attain and/or maintain the highest physical, mental and psychosocial well-being.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead nursing staff and management team in the delivery of quality person-centered care and customer service approach for residents and families within the community, ensuring compliance with policies and procedure and government regulatory agencies.
Maintain and implement enhancements to the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement program (QAPI) and serve as the community's committee chair. Analyze performance metrics, trends and clinical outcomes; recommend and implement process improvement measures.
Act as an ambassador of the organization to the local communities to which we serve. Participate in external and internal community events and other activities to promote organization's services.
Ensure efficient and accurate admission and discharge approvals and documentation in collaboration with the admissions and interdisciplinary teams.
Serve as the subject matter expert/trainer for Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Assess EMR documentation for accuracy and medical necessity, identify areas of opportunity and provide feedback as necessary.
Collaborate with Quality Team to develop nursing clinical programs that includes restorative, wound management and in-service. Oversee program implementation to ensure consistency with clinical needs that result in positive outcomes.
Partner with Human Resources in staff attraction and retention efforts, including hiring, onboarding, coaching and counseling and performance management. Ensure delegation of responsibility, authority and accountability. Assume leadership oversight of the entire community in the absence of the Administrator.
Oversee the implementation of the organization's nursing education comprehensive curriculums. Ensure staff' s training needs are identified and necessary training and resources are provided.
Assist in the preparation of the annual operating budget and manage all expenditures to maintain budget guidelines.
Oversee incident investigations, ensuring immediate resident/staff safety. Ensure the appropriate persons are notified as required by the community's policy and regulatory requirements and that documentation is complete, accurate and submitted timely.
Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification
Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or health related field preferred.
Must become certified in a required Dementia Care Program within 12 months from hire date.
Five years' experience as an RN in long term care with general knowledge in dementia care services.
Five years' experience in a supervisory role with emphasis on developing high performing teams.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Current knowledge of nursing standards and practices in accordance with state regulatory requirements and licensing board.
Excellent leadership skills with experience developing and engaging high performing cross functional teams that lead to better resident outcomes.
Ability to effectively train staff to produce desired results.
Ability to work proactively with physicians and all levels of the organization.
Knowledge of Minimum Data Set (MDS) and reimbursement case mix.
Ability to display compassion and sensitivity. Ability and willingness to work constructively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to understand the needs and wants of residents and families.
Ability to read, speak and write English using proper grammar, diction and style.
Ability and willingness to learn to operate the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Working knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office - Word, Outlook, Excel and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) programs.
Additional Work Requirements
Ability to travel to offsite events including conferences and in-services.
Ability to work off-shift schedules; evening, weekend and holiday hours required to support resident care requirements.
24 hour on-call availability required.

Safely lifts with proper lift equipment and transfers person served weighing average of 150 pounds on a frequent basis.
Pushes person in wheel chair weighing up to 250 pounds on a frequent basis, often for long distances.
Frequently stoops, twists, bends, squats and kneels.
