Description
Position Summary:
Manages the resources for the department to insure quality patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and cost-effective care. Develops and empowers staff, forges collaborative and team relationships within nursing department and with other disciplines and departments. Promotes professional patient care consistent with standards and policies of hospital and nursing department.
Responsibilities:
Establishes standards and practices within department to advance patient satisfaction. Demonstrates therapeutic interactions with patients, families, and health team members.
Develops, participates, and facilitates the attainment of department standards, goals/objectives and strategies.
Collaborates with multiple disciplines in maintaining quality of care and enhances patient care by communicating with ancillary departments, medical staff, etc. Maintains forum to enhance communications at all levels.
Ensures effective recruitment, hiring, retention, corrective action, and competency assessment process for employees in assigned departments. Conducts performance appraisals. Supports organizational and nursing policies related to staffing and employee relations.
Plans and accurately forecasts budgeting needs for capital expenditures, staffing requirements, and material expenses. Assists with analysis of budget variance, developing corrective action plans as necessary to attain identified target.
Works with nursing and medical staff to determine the quality indicators and organizes efforts to continually improve that quality.
Uses Performance Improvement process for collecting data, problem identification, implementation and evaluation to resolve problems. Actively supports Performance Improvement goals and actions within department.
Conducts annual review of policies, procedures, and standards for the department and takes action to update them as necessary.
Promotes McLaren Port Huron through participating in professional and community organizations/activities.
Assumes personal responsibility for continued learning and professional development.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse license
Three (3) years of prior work experience in progressive, professional nursing experience including program development, implementation and evaluation that demonstrates managerial and leadership skills
Preferred:
Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN)
Five (5) years of prior work experience in progressive, professional nursing experience including program development, implementation and evaluation that demonstrates managerial and leadership skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Analytical and problem-solving skills to develop and implement improved methods of care delivery, policies and procedures and educational / clinical programs appropriate to the needs of the staff, patient and community. Evaluate nursing practice outcomes and resolve technical and/or managerial issues. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse groups, required.
