The Salvation Army - Metro Division Day Camp Counselor - Port Huron in Port Huron, Michigan

Participating in all activities and helping in the planning when needed. To lead and supervise a group of children in the activities planned.



  • Supervision and training of C.I.T’s working together with the assigned group of campers.

  • Work with the Day Camp Director and the program staff in scheduling/programming activities for the campers.

  • Encourage participation in all activities appropriate to those children assigned to your group, including musical practices, Bible class, Rec. class, Arts & Crafts class and any other activities in a constructive manner.

  • Administration of emergency first aid as needed. Recording of such treatment with proper documentation to supervising staff.

  • Always remain with your assigned group of children, unless another staff member has relieved you for any necessary reason.

  • Must attend orientation and Safe from Harm training (level 2)


  • Monitor camper assignments for the day.

  • Work with program staff to plan and execute daily activities.

  • Be responsible for the welfare of everyone in the assigned group.

  • Work with the appropriate staff in solving problems between campers.

  • Inform Day Camp Director of any staff or camper problems.

  • Report any injuries, illness, or prohibited behaviors to the Director, providing written documentation of the same.

  • Perform any other reasonable tasks as asked by the Community Center Director, Corps Officers, and Office Staff.


  • Desire to work with children ages 5 through 14 within the day camp setting.

  • Ability and/or experience in supervising campers.

  • Willingness to work as part of the ministry team with other staff members.

  • Be at least 18 years of age. Understand The Salvation Army and a willingness to support its mission.

  • Display attitude and work habits in conjunction with a Christian environment.

  • Have current CPR and First Aid Certification or be willing to take training to become certified if asked.

  • Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds at waist height for a maximum of 50 feet.

  • Ability to swim 50-75 yards without stopping
