What You Will Do

As aRefrigeration & Appliance Tech with Ascension Providence Hospital, you will have the opportunity to under limited supervision, responsible and accountable for operation, maintenance and repair of the hospital refrigeration, air conditioning equipment. Maintains an active refrigeration license, and performs all work in compliance with state, local and national codes. Maintains, repairs, and adjusts electrical, electronic, and mechanical appliances throughout the hospital.

You will:

  • Demonstratepersonal commitment to the organization’s core values through active involvement in the service excellence process. Workcooperatively and effectively with departmental staff and Providence Park associates. Contributeto a positive work environment.

  • Demonstratesafe work practices and attitudes, followsafety rules, workto prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participatein organizational and departmental safety programs.

  • Inspect, checkand makedecisions relative to the operation and repair of hospital refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment including fans, controls, humidifiers and related systems. Followmanufacturers’ instructions and specifications in operation, repair and maintenance of systems and equipment.

  • Regulateand adjustrefrigerant flow and valves to maintain required temperatures. Read thermometers and gauges and records readings. Use, replace, and recoverrefrigerants, and maintainrecovery equipment in accordance with CAA 608 guidelines. Detect, investigateand accountfor malfunctioning equipment and uses hand tools and equipment necessary for minor, major and emergency repair. Checkjoints for leaks, solderjoints, tracecontrol wires, replacevalves. Changeair filters and cleans equipment. Weld, solder, and brazeas necessary.

  • Usespecialized testing instruments, such as pressure gauges, mechanical and electronic thermometers, voltmeters, amp meters, ohmmeters, calibrated refrigerant devices, and low vacuum pumps.

  • Install, repair, and maintainelectrical, gas, and steam operated kitchen appliances, stoves, and ovens. Troubleshootand repairelectronic controls such as those used on microwave ovens, medical pumps, lab equipment, beds, etc.

  • Receiveassignments and work orders. Setup preventive maintenance jobs. Prioritizework orders and completes work within scheduled completion dates.

  • Assistin the development of preventive maintenance procedures, tagging, and checkout of new equipment.

  • Readand interpretspecifications, schematic diagrams and blueprints. Estimatetime, materials, and costs required for alterations, repairs, and installations as required. Requisitionmaterials and supplies; prepares and assembles materials, tools, supplies and equipment for work to be performed. Maintainitems in stock, cleanequipment and reporton malfunctioning equipment.

  • Maintainall required records and documents relative to operation of refrigeration and cooling equipment. Maintainrequired records regarding the use and recovery of refrigerants and their disposal. Maintainappropriate instruction manuals, technical documents, schematics, and blue prints. Completeall work orders in a timely, legible manner in order that complete and meaningful equipment histories are maintained.

  • Respondto emergency calls in a timely manner.

  • Completeminor repairs to machines, equipment, and systems normally attended to by other Facilities Support staff. May repair such systems as pneumatic tube systems, air compressors, fire pumps, and lighting systems.

  • Performnon-routine duties such as snow removal and spreading salt on hospital driveways, entrances, and walkways.

  • Supplemental Job Duties:

  • Performall other duties and projects as assigned.

  • Specific Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Demonstrateeffective written and oral communication skills consistent with mission and values.

  • Demonstrateinterpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to drive and provide own transportation to various sites in Providence Network.

  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative as well as ability to function effectively in a fast paced environment.

What You Will Need

Licenses/Certifications/Registration:

  • Required Credential(s):

  • Valid Michigan Drivers License required.

  • Journeyman Classification required. Refrigerant reclaim license required.

Education:

  • High School graduate or equivalent required

  • Refrigeration training through on-the-job experience, trade school or military required

Work Experience:

  • Four years experience in refrigeration work after receipt of journeyman’s license or a total of eight years experience required.
