Central Michigan University Senior Sign Shop Operator in Mount Pleasant, Michigan

Position Information

Position Summary

Performs skilled work in the operation of university signage services. Responsible for all sign shop scheduling and supervision of all aspects of the CMU sign shop.

Required Qualifications

High school education or equivalent. Two years of experience as a sign shop operator. Ability to work from blueprints and specifications. Demonstrated ability to follow and/or interpret oral and written directions. Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills. Ability to perform the essential functions and requirements of the job. Familiarity with signage software applications. Ability to communicate effectively and project a positive image. Ability to work from ladders and scaffolding. Experience running and troubleshooting sign making hardware.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of substrates, materials and coatings common to the signage industry. Proficient in spelling and language usage. Familiarity with the American Disabilities Act as it pertains to signage.

Duties & Responsibilities

Possesses skills for installations of: ○ Interior room/wayfinding signage ○ Exterior street/directional/wayfinding signage ○ Interior/exterior murals/wall graphics/vehicle wraps/athletic field wraps Provides quality control oversight for students, semiskilled staff, and journeyman level staff in the production and installation of: ○ Interior room/wayfinding signage ○ Exterior street/directional/wayfinding signage ○ Interior/exterior murals/wall graphics/vehicle wraps/athletic field wraps Oversees customer contact to determine job requirements Oversees customer contact to make sure job requirements meet branding standards for the university. Oversees communicating with other university departments on standards. Oversees deigning shop work flow and equipment placement. Oversees job assignment and prioritization for sign shop work flow representing all sign shop customers. Oversees scheduling and supervising all production aspects of the CMU Sign Shop. Design signage and determine specifications for production. Assists in new equipment purchases. Serves with the University signage committee on standard documents. Develops and maintains harmonious working relationship with all departments requesting signage. Effectively communicate with customer/department to determine signage needs. Develops standard labor charges. Stay up-to-date on material costs. Prepare customer estimates and quotations. Responsible for maintaining material and tool inventories. Responsible for maintaining clean, neat and orderly work areas. Troubleshoot, maintain and repair equipment. Stay up-to-date on evolving technology relating to the signage industry. Keep necessary records as required. Supervise/train student employees. Assist in application/hiring process of student employees. Operate multiple large format printing equipment. Stay up-to-date on printing and design software. Install various signage types. Install printing services vinyl prints. Performs other duties as assigned.
