This attorney will function as a member of a team of dedicated professionals providing legal services to Dow’s businesses and functions from Dow’s global headquarters in Midland, Michigan, within Dow’s Business Services Legal group. The successful candidate will provide legal counsel on a wide range of topics with the potential opportunity to grow into new legal areas over time based on exceptional performance and results. The incumbent must work effectively to utilize Legal Department as well as company expertise center resources when appropriate. This person will be expected to be able to display courage in the face of ambiguity and ability to collaborate with legal colleagues and internal clients with respect to the myriad of issues associated with legal and risk counseling with respect to complex commercial relationships including outsourcing and provision of professional and corporate services in a truly global, science and technology growth driven company.Specific responsibilities of this position will include:
Providing legal advice to members of the Company's Purchasing function and the Dow Services Business on legal issues associated with complex commercial services and outsourcing relationships.
Reviewing company policies, programs and third party vendor contracts for legal risk and recommending updates and revisions.
Counseling clients independently day to day, and when required managing external counsel on a project-specific basis.
Supporting Dow Purchasing clients in negotiations with third party vendors concerning complex procurement agreements, software license agreements, outsourcing agreements, and other corporate services contracts.
Preparing and providing proactive training to Business Services and Purchasing employees on legal topics.
Juris Doctor degree from a tier 1 or tier 2 accredited law school and strong academic credentials required.
Applicants must have a minimum of three to five (3-5) years of relevant legal work experience.
The successful candidate must be able to function collaboratively and be open to sharing, growth and learning in a team environment consistent with the goals and principles that guide the Legal Department.
Member in good standing of the state bar association of Michigan or another state (with the ability to become a member of the Michigan Bar by reciprocity or by passing the Michigan Bar examination).
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Substantial experience with Procurement and/or Purchasing and Business Services law.
Long-term potential for high achievement, leadership, bandwidth and commitment to Dow will be an important consideration.
Multi-jurisdictional counseling experience is preferred.
Experience in the corporate department of a large law firm is preferred.
Strong negotiation and communication skills (written and oral).
Technical aptitude and project management skills.
Ability to deal efficiently with time sensitive demands from a variety of clients; ease of interaction and ability to spontaneously communicate is essential.
