Eaton Corporation Senior Quality Engineer in Jackson, Michigan

Eaton’s Fluid Electrical Distribution division, a part of our Aerospace group, is currently seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Jackson, MI office.

Position Overview:

The Quality Engineer will provide oversight for compliance, development and enforcement of the test lab quality system as it relates to continual improvement, ISO17025, Eaton Quality System, customer requirements, and third-party oversight for both the Jackson Argyle and Beltsville facilities.

The incumbent will own the compliance, development and enforcement of annual audits, both internally and through the 3rd party A2LA certification process. They will be responsible for training and development of employees on subjects relating to customer requirements, quality system auditing, and quality engineering tools, as appropriate.

You will provide direction for future technological improvements to tracking / implementing quality system requirements, while maintaining a safe working environment by providing adequate precautions to tests in process.

In this function you will:

  • Create and maintain a highly engaged team culture that generates cycle time reductions, improves automation & efficiency, enhances facility appearance, capability and capacity and fosters continuous improvement and innovation

  • Maintain and improve facilities and equipment to meet current & future business requirements, focusing on automation of test equipment controls, data acquisition and analysis.

  • Design safety into every test and activity

  • Strong attention to detail & ability to work in a self-directed environment

  • Ownership of the ISO17025 certified quality system in both Beltsville and Jackson test labs

  • Coordination of calibration and quality check activities in Jackson

  • Review of quality documentation, regular update of files

  • Coordinate and lead external bi-annual audit and internal annual audit for both Beltsville & Jackson

  • Coordinate with plant quality teams for test engineer / technician conformity delegation training, sign off on test setup conformity as appropriate

  • Drive improvements in measurement system, gage and data acquisition accuracy

  • Implement software validation and tracking system

  • Document lessons learned / corrective actions and drive to closure. Facilitate failure investigation related problem solving, corrective actions, and process improvement activities, including 8D & RedX investigations.

  • Conduct MSA / measurement uncertainty analysis and publish results for all designated test equipment

    Qualifications

    Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science, math, or engineering field from an accredited university

  • Minimum of three (3) years of quality system experience in operations, engineering, testing, or manufacturing

  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future

  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Jackson, MI will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

    Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in engineering or MBA is preferred

  • Experience with complex control systems, programming and instrumentation

  • Strong communication skills, both written & verbal

  • Ability to read and translate technical drawings, prints, and test setups

  • Experience working with electromechanical/hydraulic components (i.e. hoses, ducting, couplings, joints, valves)

  • Design for Six Sigma Green Belt or greater

    Position Criteria:

  • Advanced knowledge in engineering report and specification writing

  • In-depth knowledge of mechanics of materials, statics, and dynamics

  • Ability to make recommendations on product designs, strongly influence product costs, and capital investments.

  • Ability to lead technical discussions and presentations for internal and external customers, including design reviews, non-advocate reviews and technical coordination meetings.

  • Thorough knowledge of product applications, product design techniques, engineering processes, and engineering standards.
