Kelly Services Electrical Design Engineer in Holly, Michigan
Kelly Engineering Resources is searching for a Mid to Senior Career Level Electrical Design Engineer to lead the design & test of custom power distribution equipment used in utility plants, boiler plants, found in large commercial buildings or industrial facilities. This is a direct hire role with a leading manufacturer of HVAC, boiler systems, stationary equipment, fluid handling equipment.
Job Scope of the Electrical Design Engineer:
You will report to the EE Manager and you will lead and execute on the conceptualization, design (AutoCAD or AutoCAD MEP) and testing of custom power distribution equipment. Work directly with customers, mechanical design engineers, as well as production and installation teams. Lead design efforts and contribute to equipment production and installation.
Essential Responsibilities of the Electrical Design Engineer:
Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, specifications and reports to research, design and evaluate electrical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet customer requirements.
apply knowledge of engineering principles.
Specify power system components or direct the selection of products to ensure conformance with design and performance specifications.
Select power distribution equipment as required to meet all applicable safety codes and standards.
Calculate arc-flash ratings and PPE levels for power distribution equipment.
Calculate and design power distribution systems for proper breaker coordination for equipment protection and operator safety
Calculate available fault current, full load amps, minimum circuit ampacity, and maximum overcurrent protection ratings for equipment.
Prepare and study technical drawings, specifications of electrical systems to ensure that design, installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements.
Utilize AutoCAD design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
Direct and coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment.
Investigate field issues, determine nature and extent of problem, and recommend corrective solutions.
Assist with project production efforts to assure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget.
Assist with development of budgets, estimating labor, material, and construction costs.
Review drawings and documents created by junior electrical engineers and other design staff.
Train and mentor less experienced team members.
Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
Conduct field surveys and study maps, graphs, diagrams, and other data to identify and correct power system problems.
Assist with shop testing of units and with unit start-up as required at job sites.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications of the Successful Electrical Design Engineer
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is hard requirement
5+ years minimum experience in the design of electrical power distribution systems for industrial facilities such as boiler plants, central utility, power plants, etc.
System designs should include: switchgear, wire sizing, circuit breakers, etc.
Proficiency with AutoCAD, MS Office, Outlook is required
Knowledge of building and industrial electrical requirements, codes and safety standards are required.
Knowledge of the manufacturing process of electrical products as it relates to deliverables is required.
Ability to conduct field surveys including up to 15% travel to customer sites is required
Professional verbal and written skills to work with end users on custom solutions and project scheduling is required
Additional skills required: problem solving, analytical/critical thinking, ability to grasp abstract ideas, technical aptitude, and research skills.
This role primarily takes place in an office setting that requires sitting for up to 4 hours at a time, manual dexterity. When not in an office setting, the role requires the ability to work in industrial plant facilities where you will walk, climb stairs, reach outward and above the should, carry/push/pull up to 25 lbs, squat and bend.
