Controls Engineering Manager

job summary:

A prominent automation solutions provider is seeking a Controls Engineering Manager for their facility in the Grand Rapids area. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 5+ years of applicable experience in an automation role, 5+ years of experience in engineered-to-order environment, and 5+ years proficiency in programming languages, including PLC's, robotics, vision systems, and handshaking between various peripheral systems.   • Direct supervision of In-House and Contract Controls Engineers

  • Assist with the successful management of engineering programs as they relate to cost, quality, safety, timing and customer satisfaction

  • Develop the Controls department through leadership, mentoring, and training of Controls Engineers

  • Manage staffing and workload issues, including managing direct, indirect and overtime hours as they relate to workload, budget and timing

  • Design, implement and document control systems for various types of automated equipment

  • Conduct the electrical/hydraulic pneumatic design, peripheral device programming, machine PLC programming, coordinate the machine debug, power-up, and machine validation with the appropriate build, power and design teams
