North American Lighting Optical Engineer II in Farmington Hills, Michigan
Duties: Provides optical design and development expertise for timely support on new projects of moderate size and complexity, implementation of new technologies, and all other assigned projects. Provides optical design related guidance and technical advice to project engineers and designers for new product development and production projects. Designs and conducts tests, lab set up, data acquisition, data analysis, and other evaluations for prototype and pre-production hardware. Recommends and implements design changes to production products per prototype testing results. Researches and develops design solutions to automotive lighting engineering issues. Generates new concepts for improving optical design capabilities. Conducts feasibility studies and engineering analyses for the new concepts. Assists the development of new techniques or methodologies for new products with new light sources, new manufacturing techniques, and/or other new technologies. Maintains open lines of communications with internal project teams and external customers and suppliers.REQUIRES A BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN ENGINEERING OR A RELATED FIELD, OR ITS EQUIVALENT, PLUS TWO YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. REQUIRES COURSEWORK IN OPTICS, MECHANICAL ENGINEERING AND PHYSICS. REQUIRES TWO YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN OPTICAL DESIGN AND/OR PHOTOMETRY. REQUIRES TWO YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN DEVELOPMENT OF AUTOMOTIVE PARTS. REQUIRES TWO YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN LAB SET UP AND TESTING METHODS. REQUIRES KNOWLEDGE OF THE FOLLOWING: TESTING METHODS AND GOVERNMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR AUTOMOTIVE DESIGNS; DATA ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS; ORGANIZATIONAL AND PLANNING SKILLS; COMPUTER SKILLS USING STANDARD BUSINESS SOFTWARE (INCLUDING MS OFFICE PROGRAMS) (KNOWLEDGE CAN BE GAINED THROUGH ANY AMOUNT OF PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE OR EDUCATION).40 hours/week.
