MGM Resorts International Senior Internal Auditor (Detroit) in Detroit, Michigan
It is the responsibility of the Senior Internal Auditor to perform complex operational, financial and compliance audits while providing excellent guest service. All duties are to be performed in accordance with federal, state, local laws, regulations, and ordinances, as well as department and Company policies, practices, and procedures, within the framework and intent of the MGM Grand Detroit Mission Statement.
Perform complex operational, financial and compliance audits, as assigned by the Internal Audit Manager. Prepares, plans, and organizes assignments; analytical reviews, reconciliations, and other procedures sufficient to formulate and express an opinion, render a conclusion or otherwise meet the objectives of the assignment. Ensures the Company’s internal controls comply with the Michigan Gaming Control Board, Federal Bank Secrecy Act, and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act Section 404 requirements.
Manages audit procedures by creating analysis documentation, evaluating and executing tests for compliance, and process-related controls. Applies professional standards and contemporary best practices to all audit activities, and works with internal and external experts in accounting, auditing and systems. Develops an understanding of internal controls and their impact on related business processes; participates in and conducts audit projects in all phases, while contributing to the continuous improvement of the company’s audit process. Works closely with Internal Auditors and department managers to develop value-added recommendations regarding business process optimization, profitability improvements, internal controls and compliance.
Assists with the development of risk assessments and audit plans, planning and execution of internal audit fieldwork, supervision of engagements, staff development, and cultivating relationships with department management. Resolves day-to-day problems with management concerning specific audits in order to provide for the timely and accurate completion of projects.
During the engagement, discusses preliminary audit findings with management while consistently affirming the Company’s philosophy of a strong internal control environment. Assists the Internal Audit Manager in preparing the final report. Represents Internal Audit on organizational project teams, management meetings, and with external organizations.
Promotes and maintains the highest level of customer service to all guests by responding effectively to inquiries related to MGM Grand Detroit and the downtown Detroit area.
Resolves guest complaints within scope of authority; otherwise refers the matter to management. Notifies senior management and/or Security of all unusual events, circumstances, missing items, or alleged theft.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
21 years of age or older.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or related field from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related field preferred.
Three years of professional audit experience in a corporate environment. Certification as a CIA, CPA, or CISA preferred.
Knowledge of internal auditing, accounting and management principles and practices.
Knowledge of the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Code of Ethics developed by The Institute of Internal Auditors. Knowledge of management information systems terminology, concepts, and practices.
Ability to negotiate issues and resolving problems.
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Access and Power Point and Microsoft Project.
Excellent guest service and hospitality skills.
Strong analytical and listening skills. Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Bilingual abilities preferred. Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
Ability to multi-task several activities and duties simultaneously Ability to function and act independently.
Ability to work well with people, in a team environment, and to communicate effectively both written & oral.
Ability to function in a fast paced environment, under short time constraints, and within established deadlines.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
