GENERAL SUMMARY:Provides consultative and analytical analyses in the development and management of the Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) compensation program and the design, development and implementation of compensation solutions (base pay programs, pay policies, pay practices, integrations, etc.) within HFHS. Manages multiple compensation projects of varying size, scale, scope and complexity. Completes overall project assessment, provides costing and impact analyses and associated advice, counsel and recommendations. Collaborates with Human Resources Business Partners providing consulting and strategic direction on compensation issues. With oversight, provides guidance regarding wage and hour laws and other compliance related matters. Creates processes, tools or methodologies for making high quality market data available to the Business Units and provides periodic job analyses/evaluations and associated market data. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the HFHS Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.2. Completes various compensation related projects, includinganalyzing new plan designs, costs and compliance issues, creation of pay structures and identified employee impact analyses/costing.3. Collaborates with Human Resources Business Partners providing consulting and strategic direction on compensation issues. Provides communications, training and guidance on plans and compliance requirements for administration to Human Resources and Operational Leadership.4. Manages multiple projects of varying size, scale, scope and complexity. Works with leadership to identify and prioritize compensation projects. Completes projects and studies as assigned, utilizing professional judgment and available internal and external validated resources. Research, analyze and synthesize information to determine the best course of action and recommendations. Effectively communicate project status and results. Projects are generally diverse in subject matter and objective; are typically complex, large-scope and typically with system-wide impact.5. Compiles and analyzes market data from various sources using appropriate mathematical and statistical methods. Provides grading, employee impact and pay program recommendations to customers requesting the market analysis. Ensures data integrity, appropriateness of updates, definitions and job matches, as well as distribution, communication and interpretation of the data. 6. Actively participates in the design, development and implementation of exempt and non-exempt compensation programs throughout HFHS. Partners with customers to identity compensation needs, methods, and goals and applies technical knowledge in drafting/developing initial compensation program design methods/ recommendations.7. Drafts pay policy and practice provisions. Summarizes policy and practice information from throughout the organization through comparison to wage and hour laws and market practices. Makes various recommendations regarding improvement, expansion or design implications of programs that fit customer needs and philosophies. Summarizes information in such a manner to serve as an authoritative resource/inventory of the compensation practices and methods used within HFHS.8. Conducts studies of external market practices using reputable third party surveys (e.g., pay practices and perquisites), provides analysis and makes recommendations for organization practices.9. Provides professional guidance regarding compliance with wage and hour laws and associated regulations (e.g., requirements under the Dept. of Labor (DOL), the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), ERISA, IRS and HHS agencies). Assists in the analysis and interpretation of new and changes related to legislation/regulations. Seeks internal counsel for definitive resolution. Ensures compliance with federal and state guidelines impacting compensation programs, confers and analyzes equity and viability of current compensation programs compared to trends and regulatory requirements. Continually assesses the competitiveness of compensation programs against industry standards.10. Participates in the administration, revision and design of incentive programs. Drafts program elements, costing and recommendations. Ensures integrity of calculations meet program goals and objectives. Audits programs.11. May conduct periodic job audits and complex/varied job evaluations to ensure appropriate job documentation and the equitable placement of jobs within compensation programs. Conducts cost analysis to assess the impact of all recommendations.12. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, HFHS Corporate Integrity Program, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Finance or related discipline.· Minimum of 3-5 years of experience utilizing various mathematical/statistical methods used in compensation (e.g., costing, comp-a-ratio analysis, regression analysis, market pricing, etc.) and creating associated tools for replication of analysis processes (costing spreadsheets, merit increase modeling tools, market data based, etc.). Experience interpreting various compensation policies and practices and making professional determinations as to compliance with wage and hour laws. Experience noted above to include conducting job evaluations/analyses and employee impact analyses.· Must possess strong personal computer skills (e.g., Excel, Word, e-compensation software, etc.) with proficiency in data organization and statistical analyses are necessary.· Strong mathematical and statistical analyses skills to track and recognize trends, to develop pay models, to compile and update market data and to create/calculate the implications of varied proposals.· Must possess strong critical thinking skills as well as written and verbal communications skills to obtain and exchange factual and technical data, to write, review and edit complex correspondence, to explain wage and hour and compliance and job evaluation/pay program policies and procedures, to describe varied and complex organizational structures and organizational/functional/employee implications, and to diplomatically handle questions and resolve issues.· High level of analytical skill and judgment to recognize, analyze and recommend solutions to complex and unique compensation issues and to understand complex organizational relationships.· Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to compensation programs and familiarity with laws and regulations of related human resources disciplines.· Must possess the ability to keep highly confidential and sensitive information in confidence.· Must possess the ability to work in a team environment and support the goals of HFHS and the department.· Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.· Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of HFHS.Overview Henry Ford Health System, one of the largest and most comprehensive integrated U.S. health care systems, is a national leader in clinical care, research and education.
