Minimum Qualifications
3 years of experience developing database solutions on open-source databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.)
1 year of experience working with non-relational (NoSQL) database technologies
Bachelor's degree in computer science , a concentration in a technical field or equivalent experience
AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified Database – Specialty or equivalent experience
Familiarity with deploying infrastructure using Terraform
Experience with Git/Github
Ability to understand large data models quickly
Strong ability to work with and provide technical leadership to other team members
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of the .NET platform
Knowledge of services-oriented architecture
Experience migrating data from MS SQL Server to open-source cloud databases
Experience building solutions on and/or supporting SQL Server databases
Job Summary
An AWS Database Engineer (DBE) is responsible for building scalable, secure and performant database solutions in the AWS cloud. The DBE helps application teams choose the best database technology to support the needs for their service. The DBE also needs to quickly diagnose and resolve issues on the AWS platform. They work closely with application and architecture teams to provide optimal solutions. Being able to interact with many different teams as the resident “data person” and being able to adapt to their workflow is essential for a DBE. The primary focus of the DBE is enforcing our database design best practices, protecting our data and supporting the production environment.
Responsibilities
Assist in migrating data from on-premises to the cloud B
Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IAC) templates
Participate in code and design review
Perform proactive performance tuning on queries and procedures
Create and maintain data integration solutions across systems
Enforce database best practices and data security
Work with application teams and provide guidance on choosing database technologies and patterns that are optimal for the application and business needs.
Assist development teams with on-premises and cloud database solutions.
Solve production support issues with a sense of urgency and ownership while maintaining a high level of calm communication
Research and evaluate new database technologies and third-party tools to increase database efficiency
Create automation tools (CI/CD, Unit Testing, IAC, etc.), processes and best practices for database technologies
Participate in regular on-call rotation
Champion the company culture
Collaborate and communicate with team members daily
