Laboratory Support Tech Sr Req #: 30127949 Category: Clinical/Allied Health Facility: Beaumont Hospital Dearborn Department: Lab Specimen Processing Schedule: Part time Shift: Afternoons/EveningsHours: 1600_ 02:30M-F 14- 22:30 weekends and holidays Job Details:GENERAL SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Manager and/ or Phlebotomy Coordinator, assists in the organization and daily operations of specimen processing and/or the phlebotomy department (Inpatient, Nursing Home Specimen Collection, Patient Service Center-draw stations, In-Office phlebotomy-physician office).ESSENTIAL DUTIES:1.Trains staff with regard to department policiesrocedures for specimen handling, processing, data entry into laboratory information systems, safety/universal precautions and patient confidentiality.2.Assists in the implementation and maintenance of all policies and procedures required by hospital, laboratory, and any governing regulatory agencies to assure the ongoing safe and efficient daily operation of department services. Supports and monitor customer and employee service expectations.3.Acts as resource to laboratory professionals working in various laboratory sections to investigate missing samples, inappropriately ordered samples, etc and facilitate appropriate STAT handling of samples.4.Exhibits superior customer service skills to ensure an exceptional experience including performing service recovery.5.Collects and provides all department quality data indicators to the Laboratory Quality Assurance department or other entities required.6.Manages expected workflow in all areas to ensure that all work is completed in a timely fashion for specimen collection, and specimen processing. This includes special projects and process improvements.7.Troubleshoots and problem solves laboratory orders and requirements. Investigates errors and address consoling/coaching events.8.Initiates, maintains and supports employee engagement strategies.9.Assists with blood draws as requested10.All other duties as assigned by Coordinator, Manager, Director or other Executive Leader(s).This document represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. Education / Training: High school diploma or equivalent required: Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy course and phlebotomy externship preferred.B. Work Experience:One year phlebotomy or specimen processing experience with various blood collection techniques; knowledge of Specimen Collection and Specimen Requirements; Writing skills, communication skills, interpersonal skills and organizational skills. Computer skills needed to include Word and Excel.C. Certification, Licensure, Registration: Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy Certification preferred.D.
