The essence of the Electric Field Leader work is to provide direction and assure appropriate methods of completion of Electric Transmission & Distribution or Generation field work. This position involves interfacing with a significant number of support departments, customers, contractors, and other utilities in addition to providing leadership and direction to Company operating crews. Work includes assignment of work; assurance of safety compliance; resolution of issues; and business decisions concerning methods, crewing, schedules, etc. Work may be performed on multiple shifts, include irregular hours, and can require working outside regularly assigned headquarter locations. Electric Field Leaders are called on to anticipate operational roadblocks and respond in a timely manner. They are also expected to create and execute work plans both independently and interdependently with other departments or outside organizations.
The Electric Field Leader will typically supervise 4-15 bargaining unit Electric Distribution, Transmission or Metering company employees.
Work may also involve managing and monitoring work performed by non-company crews; and, may assist in the development of Electric Field Leaders.
The work involves a mixture of standard to advanced supervisory and operating responsibilities.
In addition to responsibilities for lower rated positions, an Electric Field Leader is responsible for managing successful headquarter business operations in a cost-effective fashion while maintaining a safe work environment and balancing the needs of the customer and company.
The Electric Field Leader develops direct reports in both business knowledge and technical skills; plans and prudently manages the scope, schedule and cost of construction projects; applies thorough understanding of policy coupled with leadership skills to resolve process and employee issues; has thorough understanding of the Working Agreement and is adept at dealing with local union leadership.
Initiates and leads change to improve results.
Professionals in this role have the ability to perform effectively and efficiently in routine and non-routine/emergency situations with minimal guidance.
Responsibilities include supervision of electric distribution employees, on-call assignments, management of project work including job site reporting, and working extended hours during restoration activities.
The ideal candidate will be safety focused and experienced in construction methods with the ability to accurately estimate hours required to complete complex projects.
The candidate will also be proficient in the storm process and use of supporting computer systems and programs (e.g., Arcos, OMAR/Service Suite, OMS, and Outlook) required to complete their day-to-day work.
This position requires demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices and procedures; in-depth knowledge of electric distribution operations and construction; demonstrated leadership capabilities including the capacity to lead change efforts in a competitive business environment; and demonstrated capacity to direct both company and non-company resources in both routine and non-routine or emergency operations.
Note this position may be required to work afternoon and weekend shifts to support the OM&C workforce
A high school diploma /GED.
4 or more years' experience in electric transmission or electric distribution or electric metering or generation.
The Electric Field Leader requires technical knowledge in electric transmission or electric distribution or electric metering gained either through a technical field of study and/or through related work experience. E employees with extensive applicable technical experience in lieu of supervisory experience may be considered for placement in this role.
Working outside of normal work hours and responding to customer emergencies during anytime of the day, including evenings and weekends is required.
A Bachelor's degree in a related field or electric lines on-the-job training.
1.5 years or more of Electric Field Leader or comparable supervisory experience.
Temporary upgrade supervisory experience will be considered as comparable experience for internal employees.
Nature of Work

In addition, the Senior Field Leader I and II positions may include leadership of projects, problem-solving initiatives, and change initiatives as well as development and direction of others in the job family. Electric Field Leaders are called on to anticipate operational roadblocks and respond in a timely manner. They are also expected to create and execute work plans both independently and interdependently with other departments or outside organizations.
Responsible for the planning, organization, coordination, evaluation and supervision of employees assigned to the operation, maintenance and construction of Electric distribution systems, customer Electric services, electric generation plant facilities, buildings and grounds or utility support areas. Recommends proposed changes and enhancements to systems and facilities operation; responds to complaints and requests for information; prepares and maintains reports of completed job orders and the status of jobs in progress. Inspects job sites to check on work progress, assures satisfactory completion and plans new assignments; prepares requisitions for operations and maintenance supplies, equipment and materials and supervises special projects as required. Conducts regular safety meetings, participates as a member of safety committee; investigates and completes necessary incident reports and accident reports; maintains records, prepares and submits required reports for appropriate agencies. Implements preventative maintenance programs. Individuals should exemplify safe work practices and follow the Company’s compliance standards. Regular attendance is expected.
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with a majority of the time spent in the office or specific field locations. All salaried Electric Operations employees are required to have a storm role. Individual is required to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with storm restoration activities and could be given very short notice to do so. Individual is required to participate as necessary in the on-call rotation in case of potential storms. Individual may have to work outside of assigned headquarters to help with storm restoration which may require overnight stays. Could potentially work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the customer, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime. Individual must have a valid driver’s license.
