Job Overview


The Lithium Ion Cell Applications Engineer is responsible for developing advanced automotive battery cells for hybrid and electric vehicle applications.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing lithium ion cell product development for the FCA portfolio of hybrid and electric vehicles from specifications to production

  • Being the point of Contact between FCA and Tier 1 lithium ion cell manufactures for production programs

  • Planning and executing cell product development with tier 1 suppliers including DFMEA, DVP&R and supporting PPAP

  • Analyzing and maintaining the performance characteristics such as power, energy, life and safety during the product development cycles

  • Supporting product homologation activities and Critical Design Reviews

  • Performing engineering duties under the supervision of senior engineers and technical specialists to ensure successful development of the products

  • Being a member of cross function team supporting battery pack design and release engineering

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or Equivalent

  • Understanding of lithium ion cell technology, energy storage systems and vehicle electrification

  • Good Analytical and Problem Solving Skills

  • Familiar with EV and HEV

  • Highly Motivated and Self Starter

  • Demonstrated Ability to Work in a Team Environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or Equivalent

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience of developing lithium ion battery cells, packs or systems

  • Understanding of process development for lithium ion batteries including: manufacturing for mixing and coating of electrode films

  • Demonstrated experience working directly with battery supply base

  • Experience with PPAP process

  • Excellent quality, manufacturing and product assurance planning skills

  • Ability to resolve conflicting requirements across multiple organizations

  • Possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills – Working understanding of PFMEA, DFMEA, and DVP&R

  • Familiar with FEA, CAE, and CFD, and thermal analytical tools

  • Good communication, problem solving, computer and presentation skills
