Martin Defense Group Sr. Program Manager in Ann Arbor, Michigan

Martin Defense Group, a privately-owned defense contractor, is seeking a Sr. Program Manager. The incumbent will join a group of talented Engineers, Scientist, and Innovators with tremendous top-side potential devoted to solving novel technological problems with national defense implications in the fields of Cybersecurity, Autonomy, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Naval Architecture among others. The Program Manager is responsible for high-quality, on-time and on-budget execution of all assigned programs. Assigned programs could consist of research and development tasking for DoD, NASA, and other U.S. government agencies and range from small business grants to large (>$30m) multi-year programs and may include U.S. government acquisition programs of record. The Program Manager will work with the assigned program team to oversee, organize and shape programs to ensure all objectives and milestones are achieved.

In this role, the Program Manager will work closely with leadership to execute the company’s strategic vision. The Program Manager will develop and execute a program plan to ensure timelines, budgets, and profitability are met. The program Manager ensures that the program team has adequate tools and staffing resources to achieve their project objectives.

Important duties also include communicating progress and highlighting risks, timeline delays, and other issues to senior leadership and executives.

The ideal candidate will have 3 or more years of direct experience in program management or engineering program management on programs involving engineering design, development and fabrication. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Programmatic management direction of programs of varying size and complexity.

  • Leading multi-disciplinary project teams comprised of engineers, scientists, and technicians.

  • Responsibility for tracking cost, schedule, and meeting top-level technical objectives over the duration of the program.

  • Support the writing and review of proposals for new contracts

  • Responsibility for reporting key performance indicators.

  • Clearly communicate concepts and ideas with engineers at varied experience levels.

  • Representing the company in an inward and outward facing leadership position by proactively and effectively communicating with coworkers, customers, subcontractors, and vendors.

  • Collaborate with contracting, purchasing, and compliance teams.

  • Work with contracts department to review U.S. government contracts of various types (CPFF, FFP, T&M) for terms and conditions that have an impact on programs, including the Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) and government security restrictions.

  • Consistent and reliable office hours are required for this job.

  • Occasional travel is required for this job.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in science, technology, engineering or math field from an accredited college or university.

  • 3+ years of engineering experience.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Program management or engineering project management experience.

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering or math field from an accredited college or university.

  • 5+ years of engineering experience.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Program management or engineering project management experience.

SKILLS/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:

  • Experience managing U.S. Department of Defense projects is highly desirable.

  • Experienced managing budgets and schedules with ability to convey information to varied levels of staff.

  • Strategic planning: analyzes work, sets goals, develops plans of action, and utilizes time effectively.

  • Knowledge of engineering system design, development and fabrication

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, while working strongly with others in a team.

  • MS Project experience.

  • Earned Value Management experience a plus.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.

REQUIREMENTS

  • U.S. Citizenship.

  • Ability and willingness to obtain a U.S. Government SECRET security clearance.
