Job Summary

We are seeking an energetic, dynamic Business Analyst to join our team of experienced business analysts, project managers, programmers, and trainers to support the implementation and operations of an enterprise-wide clinical trials management system.

In 2014, the University of Michigan Medical School embarked on the strategic priority to transform its clinical trials enterprise by 2018. The Medical School Office of Research has implemented a new organizational structure, common infrastructure, and redesigned business processes necessary to increase the success of our clinical trials portfolio. The organizational structure includes the establishment of a central Clinical Trials Support Office (CTSO) with 7 trans-departmental Clinical Trials Support Units (CTSUs) that are aligned around common areas of research. An enterprise-wide clinical trials management system, OnCore, is being implemented to underpin this organizational structure. OnCore supports the new business processes and standard work and will be the system of record for clinical trial information

Responsibilities*

We are seeking a senior level candidate for a Business Analyst position within the OnCore Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS) team within HITS. Working with a multidisciplinary matrixed team and under general direction, you will participate in the implementation and long-term management of the CTMS. The candidate will be expected to quickly become an expert in the use of the OnCore CTMS and to build deep domain knowledge in the fields of clinical research and clinical trial conduct and administration, with a focus on subject management, financials and billing.

Key aspects of this position are:

  • Guide the CTMS project team and CTMS users through scope definition, business workflow and technical requirements definition

  • Work with the Clinical Trials Support Unit to coordinate the build and migration of all existing oncology clinical trials.

  • Liaison between internal business partners, such as Calendar Review & Analysis Office, and external business partners including the Forte team located in India.

  • Coordinate and track all protocol and budget documents, calendars and queries and ensure deliverables are on schedule

  • Communicate, escalate and assist in resolution of issues by liaising with CTSU team and business partners

  • Monitor feedback, identify trends and make recommendations to improve workflows, processes and timeline

  • Track and monitor risks and make recommendations for mitigation

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports.

  • Work with the CTMS team in a dynamic collaborative environment

  • Work in partnership with CTMS team to create and conduct testing and validation of the system prior to enhancements and upgrades. Assist with troubleshooting and ticket resolution.

  • Serves as a member of the OnCore Support team; participate in on call rotation.

  • Provide weekly project report for stakeholders including status of deliverables, milestones and risks

Supervision Received

Direct supervision is received from the OnCore Coordinator and Clinical Trials Application Manager. This position will work collaboratively with members of the CTMS Team, Calendar Review & Analysis Office, Oncology Clinical Trials Support Unit, and Forte Research.

Required Qualifications*

Requirements for Senior Position:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or a related field, or STEM discipline, and 3-5 years’ relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of independence and to take initiative while remaining a strong team player

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, understand technical information and communicate it to others using clear, concise and user-friendly language.

  • Demonstrated strategic and conceptual analytical thinking and decision-making skills, as well as adaptability and flexibility, including the ability to manage under deadline pressure, ambiguity, and change.

  • Strong technical background/knowledge.

  • Strong understanding of project management and business systems analysis methodologies/best practices.

  • Strong understanding of delivery and support of enterprise class systems and support of the end-user community.

  • Proven record of effectively bridging the communication gap between end users and project teams

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to tactfully and diplomatically interact with all levels of personnel, from entry-level employees to senior faculty and academic administrators

Requirements for Intermediate Position:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or a related field, or STEM discipline, and 1-3 years’ relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • Ability to learn quickly, understand technical information and communicate it to others using clear, concise and user-friendly language.

  • Demonstrated strategic and conceptual analytical thinking and decision-making skills, as well as adaptability and flexibility, including the ability to manage under deadline pressure, ambiguity, and change.

  • Solid technical background/knowledge.

  • Understanding of project management and business systems analysis methodologies/best practices.

  • Understanding of delivery and support of enterprise class systems and support of the end-user community.

  • Proven record of effectively bridging the communication gap between end users and project teams

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to tactfully and diplomatically interact with all levels of personnel, from entry-level employees to senior faculty and academic administrators

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master’s degree in Health Informatics or related field, or a STEM discipline

  • Domain expertise in the field of research IT, research informatics, healthcare informatics, bioinformatics, or life science computing

  • Five to eight years supporting major life science information systems, healthcare, pharmaceutical, or other projects in regulated environments

  • Experience with and/or training in a Clinical Trials Management System, specifically OnCore, or other Clinical Data Management systems
