The Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital will give our community it’s first-ever wellness destination. Our families and friends will have improved access to nutrition education, exercise resources and state-of-the-art care like they never have before. We offer over 200,000 square feet and has 58 acute cate beds in our new state-of-the-art regional hospital. Our campus also features an organic farm with access to nutrition, education and therapies. Accountable for Staff RNs, LPNs, Patient Care Technicians, and Unit Clerks. Includes Mobile RNs when applicable. No direct reports.
The RN Clinical Manager - Critical Care/Med Surge Unit assists in managing areas and administering nursing programs for neonate, infant, adult and geriatric patient care. Maintains and improves patient care standards within the units. Ensures assigned personnel area competent and in compliance with established standards.
Oversees the delivery of patient care on assigned units. Communicates policies and procedures, performance and employee concerns with employees, and encourages the development of behaviors for improved performance.
Provides input into the selection, training, and orientation of staff; evaluates service providers when on probationary status and annually. Leads / participates on teams as needed. Encourages staff involvement. Assists with staffing and scheduling of employees within the departments.
Participates in patient care when appropriate. Demonstrates competence, awareness of and sensitivity to the physical and psychosocial needs of neonate through geriatric aged population. Maintains expertise through appropriate educational / organizational activities.
Assists in developing and maintaining compliance to departmental budgets. Ensures the provision of safe and cost effective nursing care. Investigates new products, equipment, and
Care techniques and makes recommendation to Department Director; participates in demonstration of such to staff.
Participates in investigations of complaints from patients, nursing, and medical staffs; takes appropriate corrective action; provides follow-up to ensure satisfactory resolution.
In conjunction with Department Director Implements and monitors a department quality improvement plan. Evaluates compliance to the plan and makes, recommends and implements corrective action.
Complies with and/or implements the “Customer First” philosophy as well as all hospital and departmental policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols to meet all licensing and accreditation requirements. Clinical Manager is expected to work off shift hours for continuity of leadership for employees.
Performs other job duties as assigned.
Education: Graduate of approved school of professional nursing. BSN or Bachelor’s Degree required, or completion within one year of attaining the position
Skills: Must be able to facilitate multi-disciplinary work groups, and be skilled in the art of negotiation and compromise. Must demonstrate nursing, budgetary, written, and verbal communication skills. Must have knowledge of regulatory requirements and performance improvement activities. Must have staffing and scheduling knowledge. Must be open to new ideas, with a demonstrated ability to think flexibly, and respond to critical situations involving patients, personnel, and visitors in a professional manner. Must have ability to understand people and why they behave as they do. Must demonstrate sound clinical skills and judgement.
Years of Experience: Minimum of three years in Medical Surgical and Critical Care nursing with progressive management and leadership responsibilities
License: Current State of Michigan licensure as RN
Certification: NIHSS, BCLS, and ACLS
Personal Protective Equipment: Must demonstrate knowledge and use of standard precautions and PPE, including glove, gown, mask, and eye protection.
Physical Demands: Must be able to see, hear, and move intermittently, or use prosthetics that will enable you to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Frequent standing and walking. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. Must be able
to read, write, and speak the English language. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25% of ideal body weight. Must handle crisis and emergency situations. Regular exposure to blood borne pathogens from blood and/or bodily fluids. Regular exposure to infectious and contagious disease. May be exposed to odorous and hazardous specimens. Subject to irregular working hours.
